Still Organizing

I got another cubicle storage built and realized that the second one like this one would not really fit without making the room feel crowded.  So I returned it and will get a 6 cubicle storage instead.  I didn't have my 20% off coupon with me at the time of the return, so now I have to make another trip.  Blah.

I keep all of my beads in these plastic containers which I have labeled, but I don't think this is working for me.  I'm a visual person and this time around when I'm designing and creating pieces, I want to able to see several beads out.  I know some people use muffin tins and I like this idea.  I could pull off the tops of these plastic containers for a similar effect.  Don't really want to spend any more money.

I wanted to ask all of my jewelry designer blog mates for suggestions.  What works for you when you want to sit and create new designs?  What type of layout do you use for looking at your beads?  Thanks in advance, I would really appreciate any ideas.

  1. Getting organized is a good feeling. I store my beads in containers just like you. I do put my found objects in old wooden drawers that I find at antique fairs. I also put objects in old jars so I can see them.

  2. You look organized enough. If you need that visual aspect, you could tape/glue a sample of each bead in the containers to the front where you can see it... but depending on how many beads ( and how special) this could end up being a pain in the butt. I originally used baskets and had a sample bead of the colors in the basket wired to the front, which had me grabbing the right basket, but I still had to sort through to decide if I wanted any of the beads in it lol Now I do see through containers, but they only let me see the first row.. so I still have to take the container out and open it. Unless you're planning on hanging all your beads up on your wall like your very own beadshop...I think you're pretty much stuck ;)

  3. WOW but you're organized! And I'd love to peek in those boxes.

As for designing, I'm totally seat of the pants. I have a box of beads I've picked from the drawers and let them speak to me.

  4. short-thread a bead from a box, then tape thread ends to the front for a quick-see... tedious, but....

  5. I don't have beads...but I am a visual person too and things hidden away don't inspire me.
    Best of luck!!
